Australian music icon Paul Kelly is getting into the Christmas spirit.

He’s got a brand new album, Paul Kelly’s Christmas Train, that has 22 songs that span the decades.

In his own words, he asked a few singers to help out on the album.

“I finally got around to to it, I have been thinking about it for a few years … I do like Christmas and I like the great range of Christmas music,” he told Sofie Formica.

Kelly said he wanted to cover a range of Christmas music, from folk music to pop, and everything in between.

“I definitely had some favourites that have been on the list for some time, I mean Silent Night , little Drummer Boy are family favourites at our Christmas carols so I had to include them.”

Last week he played in Melbourne for the first time in two years, and and said it was truly an emotional experience.

He also revealed the special part his 12-year-old grandson Juniper played in the album!
