4BC Drive has revealed another case of the crippling public health crisis, after a pregnant woman waited hours at Logan Hospital to be seen yesterday.

A spokesperson for Metro South Hospital apologised for the huge delays, with patients left waiting in the emergency department for hours.

The spokesperson said it was the hospital’s second busiest day on record.

Alison, which is not her real name, is 4-and-a-half months pregnant and has a family history of miscarriage.

She went to the hospital with a high fever, vomiting, shortness of breath and with intense stomach cramps and pains.

She was categorised as low-risk and waited in the waiting room.

After 8pm she finally got a bed, she was given a blood test and a saline drip, an ultrasound to check the baby and told she had a suspected viral infection before testing positive to COVID.

Scott Emerson says it was “absolutely outrageous”.

Nine News reporter Tim Arvier says he was told about an elderly man who waited 14 hours for an ambulance after falling over and breaking his hip.

He was told overnight there were 30 pending Code One emergencies, with some patients waiting an hour to be assigned an ambulance.

“They are the ones that are deemed life-threatening.”

In a statement to 4BC Drive, a spokesperson for Metro South Health said they experienced “very high numbers in our emergency departments yesterday” and apologised to patients who waited longer than normal.

“Yesterday (Monday 16 May) was the second busiest day on record in the Logan Hospital Emergency Department with 363 patients presenting for care.

“The highest number of patients ever recorded presenting to the Logan Hospital Emergency Department is 368.”
