Opponent calls Karen Andrews out for ‘most outrageous, incendiary’ claim
The Home Affairs Minister has been accused of making ‘outrageous’ and unfounded suggestions about Chinese interference in campaigns.
Karen Andrews on Wednesday said she was suspicious of China and the Solomon Islands’ security pact because of its timing around the Australian election.
Her Labor opponent for the seat of McPherson this morning called in to 4BC Breakfast to tell Neil Breen it was unacceptable to make the comments without any proof.
“This is the most outrageous, incendiary thing you can say in the middle of an election campaign,” he said.
“To sort of hint at Chinese political interference in our election and then provide no proof, no evidence, nothing to back it up, and then yesterday she tries to walk away from her comments, well I don’t think that’s good enough!
“These claims of political interference, it’s Trump politics at its worst.”
