A new sporting precinct would be built in Brisbane’s north, to transform a former inner-city raceway for the 2032 Games.

There are plans to move the old Albion raceway to a new location and a six-star Brisbane Indoor Sports Centre would be built in its place.

It would play host to Olympic events including basketball and incorporate netball, volleyball and badminton facilities.

Brisbane Deputy Mayor Krista Adams, who is also the civic cabinet chair for the Games, says the council has put forward a concept.

“We wanted to imagine this once in a lifetime opportunity that we have for a legacy of a sports precinct for people in the northside, and we think this concept has some real legs in it.”

She said hundreds of people have moved in to the northern suburbs, and they are crying out for open spaces.

Press PLAY to hear more about their proposal

But the a state government spokesperson told Brisbane Live, the government “welcomes all ideas” on the proposed redevelopment.

“The Queensland Government is working on developing a masterplan for Albion that will deliver a key venue for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and redevelop a vital inner city precinct.”
