For more than 30 years, Olivia Newton-John’s photographer captured both private and public moments in the life of Australia’s sweetheart.

Newton-John passed away peacefully at her ranch, aged 73, her husband said in a statement overnight.

Michelle Day, her long-time photographer, spoke to Sofie from Los Angeles.

“I think she was just the way she is in public as she was in private, she was just the most genuine, authentic person,” she said on 4BC Afternoons.

“Yes I knew her privately, yes she was a very, very dear friend, but I think everybody feels like they knew her and they really did.”

She still recalls the first job she shot Newton-John and their first meeting, and how they bonded and forged a friendship over the decades.

That first job was in 1994, and she worked with her until 2021.
