Rugby League’s first female referee is confident her appointment will enhance the game as she prepares to make history.

Belinda Sharpe will make her debut as the assistant referee for Thursday night’s clash between the Broncos and Bulldogs at Suncorp Stadium.

Ms Sharpe tells Steve Price the players won’t even notice she’s refereeing the game.

“I’ve been involved in NRL games for a number of years now… I think the players are pretty used to seeing me out on the sideline there so, hopefully, that transition over to the middle would be pretty smooth.

“It’s a great opportunity for me… I’m looking forward to it.”
