NRL concedes Bunker mistake over crucial call in Cowboys-Wests Tigers game

neil breen

The NRL has conceded the Wests Tigers were robbed of a victory in the game against the North Queensland Cowboys yesterday.

The home-side was permitted a challenge after the siren to secure a crucial, game winning penalty goal.

Neil Breen says he hopes fans don’t engage in “referee bashing”.

“I want to give the referee for the match, Chris Butler, a rap,” Neil said.

“I reckon he refereed that match superbly. It was gripping, it was great fun to watch … great Sunday afternoon entertainment.”

He says Butler would have defaulted to the video referee to make a call, and he made the right call on the field.

“I would just hope that everyone who loves rugby leave doesn’t referee bash as a result of this exercise.”
