Lawyers for Novak Djokovic have filed an appeal in the Federal Circuit Court against the decision to deport him from Australia.

Djokovic was handed a medical exemption by Tennis Australia to play in the Australian Open but was denied entry to the country by Border Force.

A brief hearing got underway at 3pm Melbourne time but was adjourned to allow him to read additional material.

Novak Djokovic’s visa to enter Australia has been cancelled by the federal government.

It came after he was held at Melbourne Airport after arriving in Australia late last night.

The Age reports a member of Djokovic’s team applied for a sub-class of visa that does not apply to people who have received medical exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccine.

The granting of a medical exemption for the unvaccinated tennis star to attend the Australian Open was met with outrage by the Australian public.
