A suspected ballistic missile fired by North Korea has made impact in the Pacific Ocean after flying over Japan. 

Citizens in Japan’s northern island, Hokkaido, and in the Aomori prefectures were warned to take cover after it was detected by the coast guard.

Leonid Petrov, from the Australian National University, told Sofie Formica North Korea’s already launched 30 projectiles this year.

It’s Pyongyang’s fifth launch in a week after the US, South Korea and Japan staged trilateral anti-submarine exercises last week.

Sirens could be heard warning citizens to take cover.

Japan says it strongly objects to North Korea’s missile launches and will collaborate with South Korea and the US in its response.

There has been no reports of damage to ships.
