No cover under COVID: Opposition promises Premier can’t dodge integrity questions
The state Opposition Leader is seeking a stronger explanation from the Premier following the Integrity Commissioner’s resignation.
Nicola Stepanov announced she will be stepping down from the role midway through her three-year tenure.
The Commissioner had been investigating unlawful political lobbying and believed information was being leaked from her office.
Her resignation comes as the states Crime and Corruption Commission investigates allegations a laptop was seized from her office in March last year without her knowledge and wiped clean.
LNP Leader David Crisafulli told Sofie Formica the Premier can’t hide behind the pandemic.
“This is the Office of the Integrity Commissioner being raided by the government,” he said. “These are the stories you hear out of tinpot dictatorships – this is serious.
“We are going to continue to get the government to address it and I have no intention of leaving this to rest because integrity matters.
“I know there will be people who seek to use the cover of COVID not to talk about it.
“Well, I’ll be using the glare of parliament and I’ll be using estimates to show how damaging those links are.”
