New police taskforce to get “ahead of the game” on youth gangs
A special police taskforce will crack down on youth crime gangs in south-east Queensland.
More than 30 specialist police officers from four south-east districts will be recruited for the team.
Queensland Police Service Deputy Commissioner Steve Gollschewski told Neil Breen it’s about being “ahead of the game”.
“What we know is when we’re very good at policing things, the way that crime happens changes,” he said.
“Those people that perpetrate crime, they change the way they operate so they can try and avoid detection.
“These types of groups, too, we’re seeing with these younger people that new associations form, new groups pop up.”
