Neil Breen’s dismay at the ‘biggest news story’ from the Logies

Neil Breen says the biggest news story out of the Logies on the Gold Coast was Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s red carpet appearance, where she defended her commitment to the job.

The Premier used an interview on the red carpet to respond to reports she’s “checked out” after being labelled a part-time leader from ALP insiders.

She said she works 7 days a week adding most events she’s attended have been on weekends.

The Premier was under fire on the weekend after a number of stories including Labor stalwart and former premier Peter Beattie calling for the government to set a new vision and agenda or risk becoming “stale”.

“Over the last several weeks, it’s not just me, lots of questions are being asked about the Premier, her commitment to the job, her love of a red carpet affair,” Neil said.

“I have been loathe to comment on what Annastacia Palaszczuk, the Premier, does in her spare time, I believe spare time is spare time and she can do what she wants.

“But last night all the worlds collided.”

Neil said the Logies are supposed to be about TV stars.

“Instead the biggest news story from the Logie awards is the Premier – for the mere fact she was on the red carpet”.

Meanwhile, Neil says the criticism comes after the Crime and Corruption Commission “lit a fuse” under the state government and its alleged link to lobbyists in a discussion paper released late on Friday.

Opposition leader David Crisafulli said the government had lost sight of the issues facing Queensland.

“I can’t stress how serious this is, the CCC has effectively announced they are going to have a very, very close look at the link between a very small handful  of Labor lobbyists and the state government.

“And some of the things they are going to be looking at is how decisions are made in the halls of power, the disproportionate access.”
