Neil Breen unpacks latest in Scott Morrison’s secret portfolio saga

Scott Morrison’s defiant press conference today to defend his secret appointments during the pandemic has been described as extraordinary.
The former prime minister has come under fire in recent days after it was revealed he took on five extra portfolios over a 14-month period including treasury, home affairs and health.
Mr Morrison stood by his decision to grant himself extra powers during the pandemic, saying he only planned to use them in an emergency.
Neil Breen said Mr Morrison struggled to explain coherently why.
“It was a little bit unsatisfactory.”

4BC’s federal politics editor Michael Pachi described it as an “extraordinary” press conference.
“I suppose he had no choice but to front the cameras and start putting a bit of an explanation around what is it that happened during his time in office and swearing himself into these five extra portfolios in secret,” he told Neil Breen.
“But I don’t think he answered the question as to why he did it.”
