Neil Breen unpacks Green shift in Brisbane and the toppling of Scott Morrison

Neil Breen says the issue of climate change “reverberated around every prime minister since Kevin Rudd”.
He says the issue of climate change was one of the reasons for the Coalition’s undoing.
“The Labor party has swept to power, thanks to mainly the teals winning all those seats in Sydney and Melbourne, and they ran on a climate change platform and the Greens also winning what looks like three seats here in Brisbane,” he said.
“I told you they were on for something here in Brisbane, they’ve won Griffith, it looks like they can win Brisbane and they can win Ryan as well.”
Neil had previously declared the seat of Brisbane, previously an LNP-held electorate, was a fascinating “three-way contest” between the LNP, Labor and the Greens.
The Greens are ahead in Brisbane.
He says Labor didn’t make up a lot of ground in the regions.
“Labor’s stronghold was in the metro areas of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and the seats they didn’t win it didn’t matter because were won by the Greens and the teals and that is how they got power, and they got it with less than 33 per cent of the vote.
“That could be the new political reality, the divide between the regions of Australia and the climate change and the aspirational nature of the voters in inner city areas.”
