Neil Breen is backing the Premier’s calls for the unvaccinated to be banned from Queensland’s parliamentary precinct.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has asked Speaker Curtis Pitt and a parliamentary committee to consider the ban.

Ms Palaszczuk doesn’t have control on the matter and therefore can’t introduce the mandate herself, Neil explained.

“That is under the control of the Speaker, Curtis Pitt, and the parliamentary committee.

“My question to Curtis Pitt and the Clerk of the Parliament, Neil Laurie, is what are you waiting for?

“You know why, Curtis Pitt and Neil Laurie?

“Because you think you’re better than us and I’ve got a tip for you: you’re not; you’re actually very ordinary.”

Neil Breen put the debate to Opposition Leader David Crisafulli, who resisted pressure to add support.

Mr Crisafulli argued there’s no medical advice to justify parliament being treated “differently” to other workplaces.

Neil Breen: “But it’s not being treated differently to others. Parliament would be treated the same as a cafe, a pub, a club, a restaurant, where the workers have to be vaccinated, the same as there are for frontline health workers, the same as there are for Channel Nine, where I work – we all have to be vaccinated by tomorrow or we’re out the door.

“Why shouldn’t politicians? Why shouldn’t politicians be vaccinated?”

David Crisafulli: “Understood, Breenie, but it’s not the same rules right across the board and this is the point people are raising with us.”

Neil Breen: “But shouldn’t you put in a leadership position if you’re going to impose the rules on some members of society?

“Shouldn’t politicians stick their hands up and say ‘I’m going to lead by the front’?”
