Nanango MP accused of ‘playing politics’ as flash flooding closes school
Some of the state’s most notable politicians are having it out in the Twitter replies over the status of local schools.
Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning announced in a Tweet that Nanango State School has been closed due to flash flooding in the area.
It comes after the region recorded around 82.2 millimetres of rain in the last 24-hour period.
We’re seeing flash flooding in Nanango. Nanango State School is closed. Please follow advice from emergency services and if it’s flooded, forget it.

Former opposition leader and Nanango MP Deb Frecklington was quick to remind readers the Premier has inaccurately discussed school closures in the past.
A number of schools were incorrectly reported to be reopening at the end of February, following devastating floods across the south-east, leading to widespread confusion among parents.
“Please go direct to your schools pages for information not this twitter account as it was wrong last time about school closures,” Ms Frecklington wrote.
The information in the Premier’s tweet is correct – Nanango State School is Closed today.
This is not a time to play politics @DebFrecklington

Within minutes, Ms Palaszczuk’s deputy, Steven Miles returned serve, accusing the Nanango MP of playing politics.
“The information in the Premier’s tweet is correct,” he wrote. “This is not a time to play politics.”
Flash flooding in the region has already claimed one life after the local council issued an emergency alert.
Emergency services were called to multiple jobs in Nanango and Kingaroy overnight.
