Metal mystery: Rogue shard of metal pierces roof, lands in baby bouncer
A young Gympie family have been left shaking their heads after a shard of metal pierced their roof and landed in their five-month-old’s bouncer.
It appears the rogue piece of metal, around 3cm long, pierced through the roof of Tenika Lawther’s home.
Bizarrely, no one has been able to establish where it came from.
Ms Lawther told Scott Emerson she was sitting on the couch, her partner was in the kitchen with their baby, when they heard a loud bang.
“All of a sudden this almighty bang, came tearing through our living room,” she said.
“We were both stunned, didn’t know what it was! We are looking around, we look up, there’s a hole in the ceiling, debris everywhere, dust, it’s quite horrible.
“We look down the tile is smashed and we are thinking what has happened, are being shot at? Has something exploded?”
After looking around, they found the piece of metal sitting in the baby bouncer.
The piece of metal is sharp, and they’ve been told it’s not space junk or a bullet.
“Some people say it looks like a mini grenade, others say a bit of a bullet, a melted bolt … it’s hard to describe.”
There’s a number of theories that it could be from a plane or helicopter.
“We are yet to find out what it is, and we can’t wait until we know what it is.”
