Scott Morrison has been accused of running a “shadow government” after reports he swore himself into ministerial portfolios in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s reported former health minister Greg Hunt knew he would be sharing the role with Mr Morrison, but other colleagues were unaware.

Neil Breen said it was a bizarre turn of events.

“This has just taken Canberra by storm today.”

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese slammed Morrison, labelling the move as “extraordinary and unprecedented” and said his predecessor was running a “shadow government”.

4BC’s federal political editor Michael Pachi said it appears only Mr Hunt knew he would be sharing the portfolio.

He said he expects the former prime minister will have to address it.

“I think for Scott Morrison, for the good of the party, I think he does need to come out and explain why he did what he did, because clearly it’s dividing the Coalition.”
