Moreton Bay flags rates rise as soaring costs put squeeze on budget

Gary Hardgrave

Moreton Bay will soon see a rates rise as costs for Council continue to rise.

The Moreton Bay Regional Council has flagged a rise will be included in its upcoming budget, to be released on June 17.

Mayor Peter Flannery told Neil Breen there’s no plan to put a freeze on projects already in the pipeline for the region.

“Cost pressures that are growing – whether it’s construction costs, concrete, steel, fuel, costs have gone through the roof,” he said.

“Those things for us to deliver, that we normally deliver, we’ll keep delivering them – we’re not going to cut back or pull back any of our projects.”
