More than 100 dead birds found in Pinkenba due to possible poisoning
Hundreds of birds and other animals have been found dead in Pinkenba, in a suspected poisoning incident.
Emitting a foul smell, the birds were found dead in water that was thick with algae.
Deceased rats, toads, a hare and a fox were also found at the site.
RSPCA rescue manager Jo Jordaan told 4BC Breakfast biosecurity teams are investigating, but at this point “we don’t know what it is”.
A potential poisoning of the water is suspected to be the culprit, and there are fears over whether this situation will spread to other areas.
The team were unsure at this point if it is of risk to humans.
