Police have renewed warnings for people in the south of the state to re-think their need to travel, with heavy rainfall predicted tonight.

The areas of the South West, Darling Downs, Wide Bay Burnett, Sunshine Coast, Moreton, Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane areas could be hit again this evening.

A warning remains in place from Wide Bay to the border and west to Toowoomba and Warwick.

Police are urging Queenslanders to avoid flooded roads, creeks and bridges which could be impacted by rapidly rising water.

Parents are also reminded to make sure their children don’t play in flood prone waterways and drains.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Steven Hadley says the feeling is that there will be some developments this evening, tonight and into tomorrow, potentially bring some intense rainfall.

A severe weather warning remains present, 80-100mm in the 6 hour period, and higher in some parts in the east.

“There is a risk of some very dangerous and life threatening flash flooding through tonight and early morning.”
