Minister’s office clarifies investigation into organisation that pressured Grace Tame
Grace Tame alleges she was pressured by a senior staff member from a government-funded body not to criticise the Prime Minister at this year’s Australia Day awards.
In August last year, Ms Tame allegedly received a “threatening” phone call from a senior member of an unnamed organisation.
In the conversation, she was reportedly asked not to say anything disparaging about Scott Morrison at the Australian of the Year Awards.
Mr Morrison has denied any knowledge or involvement in it in a statement released this afternoon.
Women’s Safety Minister Anne Ruston initially told Sky News she understood there would be an investigation into the accusation.
She said it was “completely unacceptable”.
Nine News reporter Eliza Edwards spoke to Scott Emerson from Canberra after the speeches, and said the accusation will be looked at.
“I’ve since spoken to her office, and they’ve since clarified, not a formal investigation from the government’s perspective but they will look into this remark.”
