Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, tells Warren Moore the threat of Victoria’s African gangs is “very real”.

“It’s probably the number one issue in Victoria. It’s real.

“Some friends of one of our family’s closest friends were assaulted by African gang members in Melbourne’s northern suburbs only a few months ago.

Mr Hunt says Victoria’s Labor government is in denial.

“The Andrews Government has been in denial. I know there was a federal labor report on migration recently where they denied there was a gang problem.

“Now the Victorian police have acknowledged it.”

The Minister says the answer is simple.

“Victoria’s state opposition have a proposal for tougher sentencing, tougher bail laws, better resources for police and calling it what it is: a gang crisis.”
