The state government is holding firm on a decision to pull support on driver reviver sites across Queensland.

There are 43 government and privately-owned stops driver reviver stops around the state but 23 are set to close this year.

Transport Minister Mark Bailey hit out at the LNP for “misleading” comments on the matter, noting many would now be the responsibility of local governments and organisations.

“In the last five years, we’ve seen up to an 80 per cent reduction of people actually stopping at them,” he told Peter Fegan on 4BC Summer Mornings.

“What we think that’s about is people are making the stops but they’re going to the coffee shop to get their flat white, getting a bite to eat from commercial premises, rather than here.

“There are still some people who drop in on these, and these are not necessarily being closed at all, they’re just being moved out from under the department’s orbit.”
