The Minister says he will look into circumstances where taxpayers are paying for convicted criminals in NSW jails to freeze their sperm.

The Daily Telegraph has revealed Corrective Services commissioners have given permission for four inmates to freeze their sperm over the last 20 years, none of which have paid the bill.

Among those criminals was Sydney gang rapist Mohammed Skaf.

NSW Corrections Minister Geoff Lee told Chris Smith the procedure is only available in extreme cases, but not for inmates who have committed serious offences.

“There is no way taxpayers should foot the bill for this – it’s absolutely appalling.”
