The Federal government has announced a 24-hour counselling service for farmers doing it tough in rural and remote communities.

Aussie Helpers will receive one million dollars over the next two years to help deploy the Virtual Psychologist Program.

Health Minister Greg Hunt made the announcement on The Alan Jones Breakfast Show after a sustained campaign for help.

“24-hour access for people in rural and remote communities, in particular the farming community, for support services.

“If it’s 3am, the dark of the night, someone can be in a deep, profound crisis and this is about giving them access, whether it’s through text or if they need to speak to somebody.”

Brian Egan from Aussie Helpers joined Alan as well, overcome by the announcement.

“That is more than fantastic. If I had any tears left in me, I’d be crying tears of joy. The problems we come across every day is just enormous, they’re overwhelming.

“So Greg Hunt, thank you and thank you to your government and thank you Alan Jones.”
