Medical community sounds alarm on end to bulk-billing GP consults
The medical community is sounding the alarm warning that fewer GP practices are offering bulk-billing consultations.
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners warns Medicare rebates are not keeping up with the costs GPs are facing, including overheads, staff and insurance.
There’s also fears it could lead to a doctor shortage.
President of the AMA in Queensland, Dr Chris Perry, says it’s “hit crunch time now” and doctors can’t afford to bulk bill.
“When people say they can’t get their doctor, blame both sides of politics who haven’t been keeping up with inflation,” he told Peter Psaltis, filling in on 4BC Drive.
