A Kangaroo Point man is in a serious condition after a Bowen Hills woman allegedly stabbed him in the stomach overnight.

The altercation, which police are treating as a domestic violence incident, occurred after a verbal altercation in an apartment building on Main Street.

The 49-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he remains this morning in a serious condition.

The 47-year-old woman has been charged with one count each of wounding and contravening a domestic violence order.

She has been denied police bail and will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
