Man charged with torture, murder of 5-year-old boy in Far North Qld

A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder over the death of a five-year-old boy in Far North Queensland.
The boy died in Townsville University Hospital on Monday, after he was transferred from Yarrabah Hospital with life-threatening injuries on August 16.
Cairns and Child Trauma Unit detectives launched an investigation into the death and arrested the 24-year-old.
He was yesterday charged with one count each of murder, grievous bodily harm and torture.
He is also facing two counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and assault occasioning bodily harm.
Detectives say the man and the boy were known to one another.
The 24-year-old is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
