A man has died after being shot by police during an incident in the Ipswich CBD yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to Ipswich train station just after 4pm, Sunday afternoon, following reports a man was armed with a knife.

Early investigations suggest the man confronted police and was subsequently shot and pronounced deceased at the scene.

An investigation is currently underway by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner and is subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
