Lord Mayor hopes eased COVID rule will spell end for CBD’s low foot traffic

Gary Hardgrave

The Lord Mayor is hoping the Brisbane CBD will continue to bounce back as COVID-19 rules ease further today.

From 6pm, household contacts of COVID-19 cases will no longer need to isolate for seven days unless they test positive.

It means anyone who is currently in isolation will be able to leave their home and continue daily life.

Adrian Schrinner said it’s important people continue to get out and about, particularly in the city centre.

“[Foot traffic is] now up to 70 per cent of what it was pre-COVID,” he told Neil Breen.

“There’s masses of construction. We’re seeing the Brisbane Metro, the Cross River Rail, a lot of buildings being built.

“That’s good for investment in the economy and jobs but we want to see workers back in there as well.”
