Locals fear Kangaroo Point parkland could be lost to Games warm-up track
Residents living in the Kangaroo Point area near Raymond Park are concerned the parkland is tipped to be the warm-up track for the athletics during the 2032 Games.
Greens MP for Griffith, Max Chandler-Mather, said letters were received by residents early this week.
The letter advises Raymond Park is the preferred location for the warm-up track.
“It’s written in a way that assumes a decision has already been made, despite no consultation or announcement by the state of federal government,” he told Jason Dasey, filling in on Brisbane Live.
He said there has been no consultation with the East Brisbane State School or with residents at Raymond Park, a well-loved piece of public parkland that hosts community sporting clubs, a dog park and a playground.
“It’s in fact one of the only pieces of public parkland in that local area and we are potentially going to lose it for a two week sporting event without any consultation.”
Locals are concerned that it would involve resuming homes.
