Local club facilities get ‘good shot in the arm’ with share of $600,000

Gary Hardgrave

Three local sport clubs are set to undergo major upgrades with a share of more than half a million dollars.

Downey Park Netball Association, Sandgate-Redcliffe District Cricket Club and Wests Mitchelton Rugby League Football Club have each received funding under the latest round of Council’s Community and Sport Partnership Program.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Neil Breen the biggest share will go to Downey Park, which was flooded in recent months.

“This is about converting some grass netball courts into some hardstand courts,” he said. “It makes them more resilient.

“This will be a good shot in the arm to those clubs but as I said, there’s still a lot of work to be done in those flooded sporting facilities.”
