Liberals push for details as new COVID-19 testing rule comes into effect
The federal opposition is calling on the Prime Minister to front up and explain new COVID-19 testing requirements for some international travellers.
Anyone flying from China, Hong Kong and Macau must now return a negative COVID-19 test result in the 48 hours before their flight to Australia.
Shadow foreign minister Simon Birmingham told Peter Fegan there needs to be more clarity.
“They said it was to get more data but they can’t demonstrate where they’re going to get more data from because the tests will be undertaken in China,” he said.
“There have been plenty of questions about how this will be implemented.
“Where is Anthony Albanese and why is he not coming out to explain this change in approach, explain why they’ve done it and explain the details?”
