A leading criminal lawyer has weighed-in on Lisa Wilkinson’s Logies speech, saying it’s unlikely she will be found in contempt of court.

The Channel 10 broadcaster found herself in the national spotlight today after ACT Supreme Court Chief Justice Lucy McCallum delayed the trial of the man accused of raping Brittany Higgins indefinitely.

“Often people – well meaning – trying to effectively inform the public, and in this case celebrate a particular thing, may influence a court,” Criminal lawyer Bill Potts said on 4BC Drive.

“So I think the Chief Justice in this particular case in the ACT, again with some regrets, was concerned, that she should have in fact made a suppression order … to stop this type of publicity, and that was not the case.”
