Labor calls on Council to divert $200 million to social housing

The Brisbane City Council is being urged to divert an unallocated $200 million to social housing in the region.

The massive sum was initially put aside to purchase the Visy Glass site in South Brisbane to make way for the Olympic Broadcast Centre.

Labor Leader Jared Cassidy says after the state government got in and purchased the site first, a $200 million gap was left in the budget.

“Rather than seeing that wasted, we think that should be invested immediately to help social housing providers fast-track the provision of some affordable rentals,” he told Neil Breen.
