Kelsey-Lee Barber has struck gold at the Commonwealth Games in the women’s javelin with her final throw.

She revealed she wasn’t sure it was going to get her over the line, fearing she would be off by a couple centimetres.

“I was a little bit shocked when it came up on the board that I took the lead,” she told Neil Breen on Brisbane Live.

Barber beat out fellow Aussie MacKenzie Little.

“MacKenzie brought her A-game yesterday, and it just made it such a competitive competition … I just knew I was going to have to find something else, and it was going to require all my experience coming together, holding my nerve and leaning into to my mental strength, and it paid off.”

She said there’s an incredible pool of Australian athletes at the moment.
