‘Just trying to create trouble’: Brad Fittler responds to national anthem debate
Off the back of the NSW Blues’ State of Origin victory, coach Brad Fittler has spoken out about the media coverage surrounding the national anthem debate.
Indigenous players from both teams refused to sing the national anthem throughout Origin, as it doesn’t recognise Australia’s first peoples.
The decision prompted a fierce debate, with many attacking the players for their silent protest.
After securing a thrilling victory in last night’s Origin decider, Blues coach Brad Fittler has weighed in on the controversial issue.
He tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan he thinks the media blew the whole thing out of proportion.
“At different stages, there was commentary towards Latrell, there was some stuff to do with the singing of the anthem in the first game I thought got a bit irresponsible.
“People are just trying to dig in areas that just didn’t exist and just trying to create trouble. I thought that was a bit disappointing.
“I thought people took that a little too far.”
