‘Just beautiful’: Ray Hadley’s solution to the national anthem debate

Article image for ‘Just beautiful’: Ray Hadley’s solution to the national anthem debate

Ray Hadley is convinced he’s come up with the perfect solution to the country’s ongoing debate surrounding our national anthem.

The conversation about whether our anthem should be updated to include indigenous Australians has ignited again after several players staged a silent protest at State of Origin by refusing to sing Advance Australia Fair.

They say the line “young and free” doesn’t recognise the long history of Australia’s indigenous people.

But Ray Hadley says KARI, an indigenous organisation he’s supported for many years, has an exceptional choir that can put this issue to rest for good.

“I want the NRL to listen to this very closely.

“You’ve had the blue in State of Origin about some indigenous members of the teams not wanting to participate in the national anthem.

“Here’s the answer: the anthem sung by this magnificent choir in their language, and then in English.

“There’s your answer,” says Ray.

“If they’re not in Sydney singing the national anthem, I’m a Dutch Astronaut.

“Have these young Australians, indigenous Australians, performing not only at the State of Origin in Sydney, but the bloody Grand Final as well.

“Unbelievable, what talent and a beautiful version in the language of their own and English. Just beautiful.”

The KARI Singers will also be performing during this Sunday’s Netball indigenous round game at Qudos Bank Arena.
