The Treasurer has described a confrontation with Simon Holmes à Court as “beyond the pale”.

The Climate 200 founder can be seen disturbing Liberal Party campaigning in a video filmed by Josh Frydenberg earlier this week.

Mr Holmes à Court can be heard in a verbal altercation with Senator Jane Hume, who can be heard saying “you are suing me for defamation … please leave me alone”.

Mr Frydenberg told Neil Breen the incident was “unacceptable”.

“That was an ugly incident and clearly by colleague Jane Hume was quite distressed by his behaviour,” he said.

“Unbelievably unacceptable, so too, his comments about John Howard.”

Mr Holmes à Court also came under fire this week for describing the former prime minister as the “angel of death” in a tweet.

“Firstly, John Howard is greatly respected by both sides and rightly so.

“I only found out about those comments later in the day but obviously there’s been a lot of publicity about them and those are comments that never should have been made.”
