John Stanley catches up with some of Australia’s greatest sailors as The Steve Price Show broadcasts live from the Sydney International Boat Show.

Olympian Matt Hayes is in the middle of a two-year sail around the world that began in July last year.

He tells John Stanley he will continue the journey towards the end of the year.

“The boat is in Grenada, in the Carribean, because it’s hurricane season there so I’m back here for a few months.”

John also spoke to Michelle Lee, who was the first Australian woman to row across the Atlantic.

When John asked her why she decided to undertake such a crazy adventure, she said she simply wanted to know if she was capable of doing it!

“If I didn’t do it I was faced with the idea wondering, and I didn’t wanna die wondering!”

Lisa Blair, the first woman to sail solo around Antarctica, also made an appearance at the Boat Show.

She tells John the incredible story of how she suddenly lost her mast in the middle of the night during her Antarctica voyage.

“I ended up in a survival situation… I had to force myself to go up to South Africa, to Cape Town, to get a new secondhand mast.”
