NRL star Jarryd Hayne has been accused of raping a virgin during his time playing in the NFL.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, a civil suit has been filed against Hayne in a Californian court.

The incident is alleged to have occurred in December 2015 while Hayne was playing for the San Francisco 49ers.

The allegations have been laid out in Superior Court documents:

“This is an action for (i) sexual battery, (ii) battery, (iii) gender violence, (iv) intentional infliction of emotional distress, and (v) negligence, arising out of a rape of a woman unable to consent to sexual penetration.”

The issue is being dealt with as a civil suit — rather than a criminal matter — because the District Attorney’s Office previously reviewed the case and rejected it on the basis of insufficient evidence.

Hayne’s long-time representative Wayne Beavis has told The Daily Telegraph he is unaware of the claims.

UPDATE:

The Parramatta Eels have released a statement on the allegations.

“The Club has been made aware of serious allegations regarding Jarryd Hayne during his time with the San Francisco 49ers.

“We were unaware of these allegations until they were made public today.”
