‘It’s a big miss’: Hedley Thomas on second inquiry into failed DNA testing

Today, Queensland’s Health Minister, Shannon Fentiman, has unveiled a second investigation into the DNA forensic lab testing, shedding light on past failures.

The announcement was triggered by Dr. Kirsty Wright’s discovery of a key document which demonstrated a, “catastrophic collapse in the amount of DNA being yielded.”

The first inquiry into this DNA testing methodology should have discovered the discrepancy, as Dr. Wright believes there was knowledge about the failure of Project 13 for nine years.

Investigative Journalist, Hedley Thomas, told Peter Gleeson on Drive, “We thought we were on the reform path and we are with this lab…but it’s not fixed yet because this one fell between the cracks and the government didn’t want to run another inquiry…”
