It’s King Charles III’s birthday. Here’s how the UK is marking the occasion
King Charles III is turning 74 today but the fanfare that typically punctuates a monarch’s birthday will be dialled down.
That’s because the birthday of British monarchs is usually celebrated twice a year: once on their actual birthday and again in the summer months.
The tradition first began because there was a greater likelihood of good weather to allow for the Trooping of the Colour to go ahead.
It’s expected King Charles III will keep the practice going, with his birthday falling on November 14, when the weather is colder.
UK correspondent Adam Gilchrist told 4BC Breakfast celebrations in London are expected to be the loudest.
