‘In the interest of fairness’: Former Olympic swimmer backs FINA’s decision on transgender athletes

Former Australian Olympic swimmer Mark Stockwell says backed the decision taken by FINA, swimming’s global governing body, on transgender athletes.
The ruling bars transgender athletes that have gone through puberty from competing in women’s competitions.
Females who transitioned to male before 12 will still be eligible to compete.
Mr Stockwell said it’s the right call.
“There may be other sports who make the decision for women transgender athletes to compete in the same field,” he told Scott Emerson on 4BC Drive.
“But in swimming, there is a massive physiological … advantage once you’ve gone through male puberty.
“So I think the decision that FINA has come up with … is one of fairness.”
