‘Idiotic’ move of stadium shuttle tipped to cause traffic headaches

Gary Hardgrave

Football fans and commuters alike are slamming a decision by Brisbane City Council to move a bus stop to a busy road.

Shuttle buses to Suncorp Stadium will now be collecting passengers at Stop 37/38 on Gympie Road, rather than the previous pick-up location of Chermside Busway.

Buses are expected to arrive at Stop 37/38 ever two to seven minutes.

Council claims the decision will “minimise impacts for other commuters” catching other services at Chermside Busway.

Neil Breen was highly critical of the “ridiculous” move, describing it as a “bad, bad effort by the Council”.

“The Council brought in the rules about no one’s allowed to drive to the football,” he said.

“Well you’ve got to make buses convenient for people, not shove them over to the side of one road.”
