Anthony Albanese has hit back at union boss John Setka after he threatened to halt millions of dollars in CFMMEU donations to the Labor Party.

The Opposition Leader had previously stated he will move to expel Setka from the Labor Party and called for him to resign as the head of the Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union (CFMMEU) after he allegedly insulted domestic violence campaigner Rosie Batty.

Setka responded by threatening to halt about $10 million worth of CFMMEU donations to Labor.

But Mr Albanese tells Chris Smith he’s more concerned about doing the right thing than receiving donations.

“I don’t respond to threats, Chris, it’s as simple as that.

“I think the fact that threats are made perhaps reinforces the fact that there’s a problem. If people think that that’s the way to engage then I think it says more about the people making the threats than those receiving them.

“I make no apology for ensuring that the Labor Party and its interests are put before the interests of any individual.”
