Hundreds of teachers will have they pay docked over 18 weeks after refusing to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

A letter from the Department of Education has informed the unvaccinated teachers their pay will be cut back by an incremental reduction.

Nine News journalist Mia Glover told Laurel, Gary & Mark it could mean a loss of $800 to $1700.

“It’s probably going to divide a lot of people this morning,” she said.

“A lot of them say they’ll be going to the Industrial Relations Commission; they’ve actually got 21 days to appeal that punishment.

“The majority of teachers here in Queensland did end up getting the COVID-19 vaccine, so it’s just going to be probably about one or two per cent, maybe, that will be looking at this appeal action.”

The teachers had been under investigation for failing to obey with a direction provided to them as public service employees and were suspended without pay from December 2021.

The letter noted a maximum penalty could have seen their pay reduced for a period of 20 weeks.
