Hundreds of child safety cases remain unresolved across Queensland months after the investigations were received; Sofie Formica calls for change.

According to the Courier Mail, over 1100 child safety investigations throughout Queensland have been left unresolved for more than 100 days.

Sofie Formica said on 4BC Afternoons that, “we have a department that is underfunded and under-resourced. The amount of work that needs to be done in this space is absolutely mind-blowing”.

According to the Courier Mail, the department blames the COVID pandemic for placing additional pressure on already vulnerable families, which has led to an increased demand for investigations.

And while child safety officers continue to prioritise the most urgent cases, Sofie Formica said it means that “so many others that also require attention get left by the wayside”.

Sofie Formica said she does not want to see another tragic circumstance like what happened with Kerri-Ann Conley.
