Millions of Australians are urged to stay vigilant after a major breach compromised their personal data. 

Scammers stole passport and drivers licence numbers, home addresses and dates of birth in the attack that targeted more than nine million Australians.

It’s sparked warnings for customers to have a “heightened awareness” for any “odd or suspicious” activity on their accounts and take extra steps to secure their identities and bank accounts.

With the breach impacting accounts that date back to 2017, there’s a chance Australians who have changed service providers may still have been hit.

“You are potentially at risk until Optus tells you otherwise,” pickr.com.au editor Leigh Stark told Bill McDonald.
